The 12,000 KM Challenge was a student-led fundraising campaign organized by The Student Water Project to support the Rianyabayo Memorial Academy water initiative in Kenya. From August 2–9, 2026, participants worked together toward a collective goal of travelling 12,000 kilometres — symbolically representing the distance between Canada and Kenya — while raising funds and awareness for clean drinking water. The challenge has wrapped up, but our campaign page is still open for donations.

  • Held August 2–9, 2026, with a community kickoff event on August 3 at Springbank Park in London, Ontario.
  • 60 participants covered 3,504 km, backed by 161 donors and 5 sponsors and partners.
  • $12,367.63 was raised — 123.6% of our $10,000 goal — with 100% of peer-to-peer donations going directly to the project.
  • Funds raised are going toward deploying 2 UV reactors at Rianyabayo Memorial Academy in Kisii, Kenya, providing safe drinking water for 300+ students.
  • See the full breakdown of results, sponsors, and thank-yous in our Final Report.

Thank you for supporting our 12,000 KM Challenge

The challenge has wrapped up, but you can still see the student-designed challenge site or donate through our campaign page.
